You can, at any moment that you estimate it necessary, call on our unique post-sale service for the ROM down quilts. This special replenishment and cleaning assured by our workshop in Eupen since 20 years, doesn't have anything in common with washing in machine or dry cleaning a quilt. The normal washing can be sufficient for downs of medium quality. For the superior qualities, we don’t recommend it: the risk to damage down definitely is huge: the dehydration of the fibres will reduce the inflating and insulating power of the quilt. Further, dehydrated down decomposes quickly into dust inside the quilt ...

In what consists down regeneration and cleaning at ROM's ?

In our shops of manufacture, the percale of cotton that contains down is emptied of its content and it is perfectly dusted. Down is sorted out, the decomposed material (fibers that are detached themselves of the down core) are eliminated and can - if you wish it - be replaced by new down. Down is steam washed then, in suspension, and only with water and biologic soap. Then follows the progressive and totally controlled drying process, also in suspension and in movement, an anti-bacterial treatment by ultraviolet rays without any use of chemicals. This treatment guarantees again a perfectly hygienic sleep even years after the purchase. A selector allows to separate feathers and downs, as well as lost fibres and down in good state.

All this process is guided automatically. It is always a specific process to every quality of down that can only be done in the specialist’s workshop. Down will gain its inflating power and its initial hygiene while keeping its natural purity.

We can also replace and to transform the percales or readapt the system of stitching to your needs.

 The percales with the silken touch, used for all our down quilts "à la carte", are in 100% cotton, certified by the independent stamp Oeko-Tex Standard 100. These percales don't make any obstacle to the excellent aeration procured by downs.

The patented numerous systems of stitching (by semi-open compartments), while stopping down "from slipping", also permit the above mentionned  specialized cleaning without cutting into the cloth, and to compromise its tightness thus... It also permits the modification of the filling after the purchase according to your requirements.

Often one advises people suffering from an allergy to mites of the quilts with synthetic fibres (because of the possible frequent washings). Yet, no relation exists between this allergy and the use of natural materials of good quality for bedding *.

Contrary to the widespread beliefs, the mites don’t feed of these natural materials. All on the contrary : a good evacuation of the humidity and a good circulation of air decreases the risk of presence of aeroallergens like the mites and mildews in your bedding considerably.

All fine percales that we use are of very high density and stop the mites from entering in the quilt and the fibres of down to come out. We also sell some anti-mite slipcovers for mattress in the same natural cotton fabric. 

* that doesn’t mean that we suggest to all allergic people to use feathers or down. There are some actual allergies to these natural fibres - but it is very rare. The choice of a quilt must always make individually itself with the professional advice in our store. To test if you are really allergic to high-quality downs or feathers - you can try a ROM pillow in goose feathers (850, - BEF) without investing directly in a quilt.
