The
best down comes from the geese and ducks.
In
principle, the down of goose is stronger, bigger and more resistant
than the down of duck.
The
quality of down is a function of its origin and the local climate.
The Eider down comes from a wild duck who nests in Iceland and
produces the best down, of an universally recognized quality. However
its rarity gave it an unapproachable price.
The
good down always straightens itself, this shape resistance assures the
necessary air spaces. The capacity of replenishment is a measure of
the down quality. It is also this capacity of replenishment that makes
the difference between the down and the feather. Feathers are flat and
therefore don't permit to keep as much air.
One
recognizes a feather containing quilt by the presence of the stems.
Finally, last advantage of the down quilt: with him finished the task
of the beds to make: you shake the quilt once and it is
finished!
