The "newness" of down: to insure that down is
absolutely new and not a recycled material. A
new down has a longer life span, a superior inflating power, and is
absolutely hygienic - without dust.

the dimension of the down clusters,
•
the source of down: the down that comes from countries with a
rough climate are of superior quality.
•
the quantity of down in relation to the feathers inside the
quilt. Rom only uses pure down for its quilts.
Our
German neighbours classified down and feathers according to their
qualities (the RAL norms which are the strictest norms in Europe
concerning down and feather fillings). Equivalent norms didn’t exist
in Belgium, so ROM adopted the German norm a long time ago. The recent
apparition of an European norm (CEN 12934 and 13186) is a beginning of
regulation in this domain. Finally, it is prohibited henceforth selling
second-hand down
as being “new”! However, this new norm is not precise on the
exact source of down, and it remains mute on an very important aspect:
the age of the geese. An adult goose gives the best down – named
"1a" at ROM - because it is constituted of a much bigger cluster
and is very well stocked in fibres than down from a younger duck or
goose.
All
qualities designated "1a" at Rom are harvested by hand at the
time of the molt (that means when the geese lose their down naturally).
Contrary to down that is mechanically harvested on young geese, this
good down is not a secondary product of the industry of the foie gras.
We
sell Hungarian downs, Polish, of the Pyrenees, downs of the Eider duck
of Iceland and the down of Antarctic wild goose as well as down from
Siberia.
